Gaff Point is a rugged peninsula with steep cliffs bordering on Hartling Bay and the LaHave River estuary. Protected since 2004, this unique, unspoiled promontory of 124 acres is owned with the KCC’s partners, the Nature Conservancy of Canada (www.natureconservancy.ca)  and the Nova Scotia Nature Trust  (www.nsnt.ca) and is stewarded by the KCC.  There is a beautiful 3.5-kilometre trail that travels all around this headland.

Getting There: Gaff Point is located in Kingsburg, Nova Scotia and is accessible from the parking lot at Hirtle’s Beach.  From the parking lot, walk along Hirtle’s Beach to the trailhead of Gaff Point.  Depending on the time of year, this can be the most challenging part of your walk as, outside of the summer season, the beach can be stony. Over spring and summer the sand returns to the shoreline and in those seasons, the walk – especially at low tide – is quite easy.  The total round-trip distance from the parking lot is 6.5 kilometres.

Gaff is a hiking trail with some rather muddy stretches, so wearing appropriate footwear will help make your trek more enjoyable.  There are no facilities on Gaff itself, but these can be found at the parking lot.  Please remember to leave no litter behind and to carry out whatever you bring in.
